Dissonance

[Erik's camp, somewhere in the woods. Night. We hear him writing for a few seconds, but he stops suddenly]

ERIK

I would have thought that you'd have given up by now. 

MAGE

Not quite, I'm afraid. I just figured I would check in.

ERIK

Did I not make myself clear? I've no interest in your schemes.

MAGE

[She gives a sarcastic gasp]

And yet, you've helped us immensely. 

ERIK

What?

MAGE

Victor Frankenstein and his friends are under the impression that they've won the first battle. He's arrogant, it's simple to convince him that he's secured a victory. I assure you, everything is going exactly as planned.

ERIK

...Well, no matter. Your... efforts have brought you close to someone I care deeply about. 

MAGE

Oh, the girl means nothing to me. Though, I can't guarantee her safety. She's decided to get wrapped up in all this, she'll pay the price if she gets too involved. 

ERIK

Then you had best know the risk you face. Should I ever find that she has been harmed as a result, know that there is no circle of Hell that could compare to the fate I would bestow upon you. Furthermore, Victor Frankenstein is not yours to kill. 

MAGE

Perhaps. [She gives a small laugh] I suppose we'll see about that.
