-Suicide Attempt
Having reached a breaking point, Victor prepares himself to jump off a local bridge. A voice familiar to us cuts in. The Bystander tries to keep Victor talking, asking his first name, about his family, his sister, etc. Victor remains as stubborn as ever, insisting that no one will miss him when he’s gone, until The Bystander points out that his phone is recording on the ledge, likely so that Victor can leave a note. They explain that people who have no one to miss them don’t leave notes.
They say, oddly knowingly, that they assume that someone in particular has led him to this point, and the course of the conversation begins to shift with one more question:
“And you’re so willing to let him win?”
Victor asks what they mean, and they explain that if nothing else, Victor should survive purely out of spite. They begin to properly talk him down, recalling their own history in situations much like this. They’re no stranger to vices, they say.
Continuing, they remind Victor that he is a man, not a god, and that his death will not instantly make the world a better place.
Victor contemplates this, and accepts help getting off the ledge.
They make sure that he will be safe for the night, making him promise that he’ll disclose everything to his therapist. When he agrees, they leave, addressing him by the surname Victor never revealed before vanishing.
After a moment to compose himself, he dials his phone. A half-asleep Dr. Walton answers, and Victor asks if they can talk.
