Forged in Blood

[The Frankenstein house. Night. The sound quality suggests that this recording is old. We hear someone fiddling with a VCR. Caroline is clearly deep in thought, and sounds stressed]

CAROLINE

It’s been quiet lately. As grateful as I am for that, I don’t trust it. They’ve never given up before, I can’t imagine that they’d do so now. They’re planning something, there’s no doubt in my mind. The only problem is that they can take as much time as they need. Years, decades... centuries. I may not even be alive by the time they’re ready to strike. 

CAROLINE

Alphonse is worried. For us, for the baby. I don’t blame him in the slightest. Trying to figure out parenthood is difficult enough on its own. It’s been taking a toll on both of us. I haven’t slept in weeks. [She laughs, but it dies down] He’s right, though. There’s no telling when she’ll come back. And when she does, she’ll be looking for me. Even if I’m not here. I have every reason to believe that she’ll target my family. 

CAROLINE

I need a way to prevent that. To separate them from the life I’ve made for myself. I just have to--

[She stops as we hear a baby begin crying in the background. Her tone immediately changes, turning softer as she shushes the child]

CAROLINE

Oh, it’s okay, sweetheart. You’re okay.

[She turns the tape off, and the recording ends]
